Marty Vittardi
(Clerk of Parma Municipal Court)

Upon graduation from Parma Senior High in 1973, Marty furthered his education at John Carroll University where he graduated in 1977 with a B.A. in Political Science. He was fortunate to have made the Dean’s List in every semester from his sophomore year through graduation.

While Marty was a student at John Carroll University, he served as a Congressional Assistant in the United States Congress. After graduation, he took the position of Deputy Clerk for Cuyahoga County Probate Court. He then went on to serve as a Legislative Representative for the Seafarers International Union from 1980 through 1988. During that period he spent considerable time in both Washington D.C. and Columbus lobbying on behalf of many labor issues.

In 1987, then Councilman Martin Vittardi, coordinated the successful campaign of his good friend, Mike Ries, for Mayor. In 1988 Mayor Ries named Marty as the Public Service Director for the City of Parma. As Service Director, he oversaw city matters for the following departments: Community Development, Purchasing and Personnel, Engineering, Senior Citizens Program, Public Lands and Buildings, Recreation, Streets and Sewers.

Marty has served in various elected positions throughout the years beginning in 1982 as Cuyahoga County Democratic Executive Committeeman, then as Parma Councilman in Ward 3 and presently as Ward 5 Democratic Leader. In 1991, he was elected to a six year term as Clerk of Court for Parma Municipal Court and re-elected to a second six year term in 1997. The Parma Court district includes the following cities: Parma, Parma Heights, Seven Hills, Brooklyn, Brooklyn Heights, Broadview Heights, North Royalton and Linndale. Marty had the honor of serving as President of the Northeast Ohio Municipal Court Clerks Association in 1996-97 and presently serves as the President of the State of Ohio Municipal Court Clerks Association.

Marty has also been involved with the Parma School System in Various capacities throughout the past several years. He has served as a member of the Superintendent’s Business Advisory Committee since 1990 and chaired the successful 1994 and 2000 school levy campaigns. He also is the founder and chairman of the Community Leadership Group which is comprised of elected officials, local business persons, and community activists interested in making positive changes in the Parma, Parma Heights and Seven Hills communities.

Marty and his wife Lynn have been married for 25 years and have three children; Allison age 23, Jessica age 20 and Mark age 18.
